49.BETH CUSTER-Vinculum Symphony Live (BC 3) Beth is a completely charming and inventive composer & bass clarinetist from the Bay area, who also plays with Trance Mission. This is her third release and it features a work for chamber orchestra and experimental instruments. Players are drawn from the Club Foot Orchestra $13.

50.JOHN FONVILLE-Living in Fire (Einstein 014) John is an extraordinary flutist who once had an lp on Ned Rothenberg's Lumina label. Here he performs unusual works for solo, amplified & multi-tracked flutes in duo & small group situations. $10.

51.MORGAN POWELL-orphans on the road (Einstein 013) Morgan is a fine trombonist and a member of the Tone Road Ramblers, who perform with him here, along with guests- Jim Staley and Pheobe Legere. $10.

52.FRANK KIMBROUGH-nourema (Soul Note 121318) With Ben Monder on guitar, Scott Robinson on saxes & Tony Moreno on drums. Frank is a strong pianist and Ben Monder a great young jazz guitarist! This was recorded live in NYC in 1997. $14.

53.PATRICK ZIMMERLI ENSEMBLE-Expansion (Songlines 1530) With Patrick on tenor sax, Ben Monder on guitar, Stomu & Satoshi Takeishi on bass & percussion. Great mix of composition and improvisation from this cool downtown unit. $15.

54.BLUE DOG-Lurch (Cobalt 61 1260) Michigan based quintet whose first cd was for the Knit label, return with another wacky jazz/rock/funk endeavor with some inspired and sick wah wah guitar! $13.

55.JAMES CARTER-Layin' in the Cut (Atlantic 83305) Featuring Marc Ribot & Jef Lee Johnson on guitars, Jamaaladeen Tacuma on el. bass & Calvin Weston on drums. This was listed last month but was just released last week. Intense jazz/funk/rock blowing session! Playing at the Blue Note without Ribot soon. $14.
