THE CALIFORNIA CONTINGENT- recently
wonder-bassist from LA - Steuart Liebig -e-mailed me, mentioning that the
only California based players that I review/rave about were Nels Cline,
Henry Kaiser & Vinny Golia. This is partially correct, but I do dig
much of what I have heard from Vinny's Nine Winds label and much weirdness
from the LA Free Music Society. Steuart sent me a bunch of his cds on Cadence
(thanks!) and each one was/is great - an amazing bassist & composer.
In the past couple of years, two other great labels have begun documenting
