Parran, Charles "Bobo" Shaw! This also includes a long unreleased track and has been limbo for twenty years, so grab up this treasure! $14.

4.ROVA SAX QUARTET-As Was (Atavistic UMS 216) Long out-of-print, this is one Rova's finest moments of challenging music for an amazing sax quartet from 1981! $14.

9.LOU GRASSI PO-BAND-Joy of Being (CIMP 227) Featuring Joseph Jarman, Paul Smoker, Perry Robinson, Steve Swell & Wilber Morris - outstanding! $14.

10.YUKO FUJIYAMA QUARTET-Re-Entry (CIMP 229) Featuring Roy Campbell, Wilber Morris and Reggie Workman - just witnessed this powerful quartet at the Knit's sound-stage and they were excellent on all counts! $14.

11.DAVE BURRELL-TYRONE BROWN-Recital (CIMP 230) Master pianist Dave Burrell always seem to move between the outside and the more inside or mainstream jazz worlds - here playing in a fine duo with bassist Tyrone Brown. $14.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE APRIL CALENDER & RECOMMENDED GIGS:

Our favorite new cellist in town and hard-working DMG employee - OKKYUNG LEE has some half dozen gigs during April, so you have numerous opportunities to check out this fine musician - she will be sitting in with accordionist Ted Reichman here at DMG this Sunday April 1st at 7pm; she is also playing at the Knit SoundStage that night at 11pm with anew quartet; she will be a member of Eyvind Kang's ensemble at Roulette on April 4th at 8:30; she will be in a duo with bass great Trevor Dunn at the next Jump Fest at the Brecht Forum on Friday April 13th at 8pm; she will also be in a quartet with Turkish/Swiss vocalist Saadet Turkoz, Mark Dresser & Eyvind Kang at Tonic on Thursday April 26th at 8pm. I believe her trio will also be at the Knit's Soundstage sometime this month as well.

THE MAHAVISHNU PROJECT & JOEL HARRISON'S FACELIFT (A SOFT MACHINE TRIBUTE) will be doing an amazing double bill at the Lion's Den on April 5th at 8pm (214 Sullivan St near Bleecker). The Mahavishnu Project now features Pete McCann on guitar (Bobby Previte's Miles Unit), Todd Reynolds on violin, Steve Hunt on keyboards, Kermit Driscoll (ex-Bill Frisell) on bass and powerhouse drummer Gregg Bendian! Localguitar hero - Joel Harrison's Facelift also do a marvelous job covering those difficult Soft Machine tunes (from 'Third'-'Six')!

DEREK BAILEY - the grand-pappy of British avant-jazz guitar will be at Tonic for a week in April!!! He will doing a solo on the 12th with the Thurston Moore/Loren Mazzacane duo, a duo with Susie Ibarra on the 14th at 8 & 10, a duo with tap dancer Will Gaines on the 17th and there will be three nights of Company style improv from the 18th-20th. Check the Tonic website for the list of personnel.

AMM- legendary British improv/new music trio will be at the Knit for two nights April 28th & 29th (Sat. & Sun.) at 8 & 10 each night. The last and only other time they were in NY was 7 years ago when yours truly presented them at Context Studios. They have been around since the mid-sixties and feature three giants - Eddie Prevost on percussion, John Tilbury on piano and Keith Rowe on table-top guitar manipulation! If you only see/hear one gig this year - this is the one!!!
